Red claw crab (Gaetice depressus)

These small crabs are popular additions to a tropical fish tank, and are sold in most tropical fish shops.

Being scavengers, they will eat most types of food. They are particularly fond of brine shrimps and bloodworms.

To aid their long term survival in the fish tank, they will require that some aquarium salt is added to the water. They may also like a way to climb out of the water (such as by climbing up a plant, a rock, or piece of wood). They will also appreciate hiding places as they are vulnerable when they moult their exoskeleton.

Note: Crabs are not to be trusted, especially if you have small fish such as Neon tetras that sleep on the bottom of the fish tank! They may also damage plants.
